Phoebe is set in Melbourne in the years 1900 and 1901. A love story with a happy ending, A young working class girl from Richmond falls in love with a wealthy widowed Collins Street Surgeon twice her age. Her family object to their relationship but gradually they are won over.

Settings include, Collins Street Melbourne, the milliner’s shop, Melbourne Cup, The banks of the Yarra, etc.

The original production was scheduled for six performances over two weekends but demand was so great that three extra performances were scheduled, each one a sell-out.

I believe that the style of music for this show lends itself more to a piano (or small trio: piano, bass and drums) than backing tracks and there is a piano score available. I am not a pianist so the arrangements are basic. I am happy for a good pianist to improvise on my arrangements, as happened with the premiere season.
